American Airlines Douglas DC-7 Mercury JFK-LAX Part 1 Video

A promotional video about one of the first non-stop transconitinental airline flights in the 1950s aboard an American Airlines Douglas DC-7 Mercury. The video covers everything from the "Reservisor" computer that makes the reservation to the meal preparation to the approach and landing in Los Angeles. A great restrospective of a bygone era of air travel.

The 3-4-2-1 sequence orginated during WWII when engines did not have fire extinguishers so a guy with a fire extinguisher would stand beside each engine in case of fire. To protect this guy from getting wacked by a propeller they would start inboard engines first so he didn't have his back to an active propeller. Once #3 (inboard, right? wing) was up & running he would step back to #4. Then on to the left wing, starting #2 (inboard) with the same procedure; #2 started, #1 started.
